The YO YO Mentality of Weight Loss
How many times have YOU lost weight and gained it all back again?
Me? Like 10 times more than month in length and 100 times to start and fail within the first 7 days and 1000 times to fail within the first day.
I am a perpetual fat guy for more than 30 years- up, down, up down and I am tired of it. Tired of talking about it, tired of trying and failing, tried of the same excuses over and over again. It is mentally draining to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. – I call myself the MOFO of Yo Yo
I was desperate instead of empowered when I started my last yo-yo –felt hopeless- I could feel the wheels spinning in the same spot and getting nowhere.
Two Years ago
Two years ago- I did a yo-yo. Started after in September 2016 through the holidays and into February 2017 where I was down 28.70 kg/58 lbs in 113 days. Start weight was 123.50 down to 98.50 before I fell apart. There is a story behind the fall that doesn’t explain how I gained it all back because that took a few months but does point out a single glaring weakness – I am mentally weak.
The last few yo-yos have been huge swings – lots of effort – good results, learnings and frustrations.
This is what I learned that led me off the beaten path.
I know shit about nutrition.
I mean shit. I am so ignorant on this fact that I am embarrassed with myself and others. Ask yourself ..How does the body work and how does it use what we eat from a scientific point of view? Can you explain it?
Exercise and weight loss are two separate things.
I love running but running and lifting doesn’t make you lose weight – it can help build muscle but it can also make you hungry beyond breaking point.
I know this is true because I lost all 28.70 kg/58 lbs in 113 days without exercising a single moment. Losing weight is a discipline of eating only.
The internet can’t be trusted and there is misinformation abound that requires diligence to discern and when I combine #1(my ignorance) with misinformation than it is easy to misled me and I have been mislead – a 1000%
What to do?
The best thing to do if you are anything like me is to get educated. Don’t accept being overweight, don’t blame it on genes, or emotions or just give up – get educated.
I started before Christmas to search for videos on YouTube and follow up with scientific research papers about nutrition. NO DIET BOOKS – NO Dietary Experts – If they are not a doctor doing research and do not have a practice with REAL patience then I do not care believe what the say without backing it up with other sources.
In November 2018 jump off on my education. The goal is to understand how my body works before I did anything else.
- How the body works and what do I actually need.
- How food works in my body so I can explain it myself.
- Understand how the different macro nutrients affect my weight .
- Understand the mechanisms in weight management and personally well being.
I found this video as a jump off, It is a 6 part series from a doctor in what looks like training other doctors and it led me down a rabbit hole.

After watching these videos – I decided to start up the process to lose weight again and I will use this blog to track what I learn and what happens.
